Beastly
by Alex Flinn

Growing up, I was a huge fan of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. We even did a whole marching band show in high school centered around it! So, I was excited to start reading. Beastly by Alex Flinn.

Kyle Kingsbury had it all. Good looks, money, popularity…he was the guy all the girls wanted to date …they guy everyone wanted to be friends with. On the outside, he’s perfect. On the inside, he is self-centered, arrogant, and simply mean. To get even with Kendra, an unattractive girl that no one ever noticed, for a comment she made, he devised a plan to humilate her in front of the whole school. In return, she decides to teach him a lesson by making him as “beastly” on the outside as he is on the inside.

“I am a beast. A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright–a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster. You think I’m talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now.”

To break this spell, someone has to love him just as he is, and he has to love her in return. How could someone fall in love with a beast? How could Kyle actually love someone other than himself? You have to read Beastly to find out!
